Polka Dots Are Fashion's Favorite Again.

Polka dots are so back — and in more fashionable ways than ever. A classic print that some may think too playful, too childish, or simply not that fashionable has rebranded and could be taking over the summer. Lately, I've seen polka dots take on a new air of sophistication and style — especially since they appeared in the Spring/Summer 2024 and 2025 runways with houses like Balmain, Miu Miu, and Markgong Shanghai.

For me, my polka dots awakening was when Margot Robbie wore that beautiful rosette-detailed Balmain number in pink satin to a film festival last year — I thought about that dress for weeks, and it felt like I had just seen the print for the first time.

But I can't help but feel that the reemergence of this print may have also been inspired by Louis Vuitton's collaboration with the artist Yayoi Kusama in 2023, that was the first time I had perceived polka dots through an artistic lens, and many fashion enthusiasts probably shared this sentiment so the print was bound to trend at some point soon (cue, now). During the collab, we saw dots of varying sizes and colors cover large walls and entire spaces, backed by the artist's own experiences and struggles; which gave some depth to the pattern and somehow more meaning to the print.

To be honest, I had never really been much of a fan of polka-dots — probably because I had never found pieces (within my tax bracket) that leaned more fashion than fun — picture Addison Rae in the Miu Miu matching set at the height of the geek chic era, that was polka dot fashion. It can be a little tricky to pull off the print in a fashionable way, especially with bold polka dots; red and white dots not styled right could easily veer into off-duty Minnie Mouse. That's probably why I never took the print seriously.

But finally, I am no longer dot-wary, because fashion aficionados seem to have devised an unspoken strategy for styling polka dots that has got me rethinking everything I thought about the print. It's a kind of pattern I have noticed (all puns intended), and it works. The print appears to have been unintentionally sorted into different fashion-safe styling categories for minimalists and maximalists alike.

Seeing polka dots styled as neutrals has definitely eased my resistance. Because they are not as bold as their larger counterparts, they give a grounding effect that pairs easily with other pieces without feeling too playful. So if you're like me, and looking to try polka dots in your outfit rotation, smaller dots would be the best place to start, and even better (and safer) if it's black and white.

As someone who has been a little hesitant to try the print, I have grown to really love this style. Not everyone is bold enough to sport a polka dot look. So wearing them as an accessory or as a statement piece has become the next best thing — at least for me, it might just be the best way to style them. This approach gives space for creativity and playful expression without disrupting visual balance.

Pairing Polka-dots with Recognized Brand Motifs

This is a fun way to pair polka dots with your favorite brand staples. This style is perfect for those who love a branded moment but still want to incorporate polka dots into their looks. One TikTok user styled her polka dots with classic adidas tracks, and I can see it working seamlessly with other color-ways too.

In this age of fast and ever changing trend cycles, it's very easy to get swept up in these fleeting trends and lose one's sense of personal style. But polka dots being in right now feels different — there's just something more genuine and familiar about its return. It feels fresh again and we can truly make it our own.

It is a timeless print that although is always around, is seldom in vogue. But not anymore, I have a feeling this polka craze is going to last a long time.
